There is an old saying that if you give a person a fish you feed him or her for a day and if you teach a person to fish you feed him or her for a lifetime. I used this fishing analogy frequently with my kids when they would ask me to do something. I would say, "Come on over and let me teach you to fish." Although they may have found it irritating, I know they were paying attention. When they got older I would ask them to fix my computer for me or some other request that I wanted them to just do it for me and they would say with great joy, “Dad, come on over so I can teach you to fish.”
Eight Shifts for Wellness is about learning to fish. The book provides you the information, fundamental concepts, and skills that you can develop and apply to fish for yourself. It is not a prescription of do this or here is the right answer for everybody. The book and the material are designed to enable you to discover and explore what works best for your unique life and will hopefully enhance your fishing for a lifetime.
I have two expansions on the fishing saying. “Teach a person to fish and inspire him or her to teach others to fish and you will feed a village for a lifetime.” I hope that you will be inspired to share the information in the book with others so they can make a positive change in their lives and then continue to pass it on to others.
The last expansion on the fishing saying is, “Teach a person to fish and inspire him or her to make a funny YouTube video on how to fish and you will feed the planet for a lifetime.”
